I created a zine based on the designated location I had selected which was Washington Square Park in New York City. Washington Square Park has garnered the reputation of being this area in the city that helplessly attracts a conglomeration of people and activities. Silence in the park is a rarity. With the park’s unspoken label of being a place where individuals can act in basically any sort of way, it invites any sort of attention: good or bad. People are aware of this quality of the park and they utilize it to their advantage. The people there have an innate need to document what’s going on and to be documented. In my zine, I wanted to capture this. I wanted to show the flashiness of the park and emphasize how performative people can be there. In addition to traditional collages often seen in zines, I wanted to include interviews as well of people visiting the park. After all, it is the people that create the social dynamic of the park.
